Mentor Program
When you’re hired at Swift, you’ll be paired with an experienced driver who will act as your mentor and help you become a safer, more capable, and more confident driver. As you work with your mentor and complete your training to be a truck driver, you’ll not only have the opportunity to learn from someone who has been right where you are and can help you navigate the road ahead, but you’ll receive competitive over the road training pay for your time.
As you adjust to life with Swift, you may be paired with a mentor for your hours of over-the-road training. The hours vary simply because every driver is different. If you’re a new driver, fresh out of our Academy or another training program, you can expect to drive with a mentor for up to 300 hours. But if you have verifiable experience or OTR training outside of Swift, or you started training, left, then came back, you may drive with a mentor for fewer than 300 hours. Regardless of where
you land on the spectrum, all of our truck driving jobs offer paid over-the-road training, so you can support yourself and your family even as you learn the ropes.
In the first year graduates earn an average of $57,000 based on the information provide us by Swift Transportation who hires the majority of SDA graduates.
TUITION INFO
Swift Academy provides low-cost CDL training through a tuition-assistance program that allows you to earn your Class A CDL with little to no upfront costs(1), aside from the fee for your permit and license and daily incidentals, like food. Your education, books, hotel, and transportation costs are covered when you sign Swift’s financial agreement, and agree to drive for Swift for 26 months after receiving your license. Plus, you’ll be paid while driving with a mentor(2). (And, if you’re coming to Swift from another CDL training program, we even have a tuition reimbursement program(3) for you.)
- (1) Out-of-pocket costs to the Swift Academy include: permit and license fees (vary by state), food, and incidentals.
- (2) New Swift Academy graduates will be required to drive with a mentor for up to 300 hours. Drivers with verifiable experience elsewhere may drive with a mentor for less time. The length of time any driver is required to drive with a mentor is determined on a case-by-case basis.
- (3) If you attend a third-party school for your Class A CDL, Swift has a tuition reimbursement program.
- 4 The Swift Military Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and applicable housing costs if the beneficiary meets the 1-year (12 months) of service from solo date as an active full-time company driver.
