QUALIFICATIONS

The following table is general carrier info. Pay attention to the qualifications listed in red on the job info page for that job’s specific qualifications/requirements

Pre-Qualifications
Minimum Age Must be at least 21 years of age Must have held a US driver’s license for the last 12 consecutive months.
Minimum Experience (tractor Trailer/OTR) ACADEMY
0 months experience needed TRAINEE
0 months experience needed, but Driver MUST have a valid Class A CDL.
If a Driver completed school and training with another company and did not have any moving violations or preventable accidents during the time they have held a CDL, they can participate in a modified training program with a Swift mentor
EXPERIENCED
6 months OTR experience (after training) within the last 12 months OR At least 12 months in the past 5 years  OR A newly trained CDL Driver that is currently employed as a commercial Driver with 4 months with ONE carrier with NO moving violations, no preventable accidents during the time they have held their CDL is also considered an experienced Driver  

*If a driver got their CDL 2-3 years ago and never used it they will need a 40 hr refresher course and will be required to take a trainee RT 
3+ yrs without use since getting CDL will need a 80 hr refresher course and will be required to take a trainee RT

*A Driver must have either Class A Experience or a CDL in the last 5 Years to qualify
* A driver with 3+ Months of experience may be eligable for Reduced training pending Road test/ Leadership Review.  * Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license, in current state of residence.
* Swift must attempt to verify past employment on all jobs in the past 3 years
* Local experience will be considered on all accounts as long as it is hauling Class A
* Will consider Military experience  with a valid DD214 and the Driver will have to complete a “Military verification form”
Moving Violations (max in 3 year period) No more than 2 MV’s in the last 2 years No serious traffic violations in the last 12 months Serious traffic violations include: Hand-held device, Reckless driving, speeding 15 or more over the limit, Seatbelt Ticket in a CMV, 
following too closely, failing to obey a traffic control device, erratic driving, improper lane change and or leaving the scene of an accident. *Serious traffic violations per 49 CFR 383.51. Citations for driving while driver’s license or Medical Certificate was suspended, disqualified, or expired will be reviewed by Corporate Safety 30+ speeding ticket is a DQ in the last 3 yrs Must have Accident Report for ALL Accidents in last 5 Years that are listed on Reports Must have Copy of Original Ticket for ALL Tickets in last 3 years that are listed on Reports that are NOT specifically Defined by the Reports
Policy on License suspensions Will review
Accidents/Incidents No more than 1 on-road or DOT preventable loss in the last 2 years. No major preventable accidents in the last 5 years (ex. Jackknife, overturn, etc.). INCIDENTS- No more than 3 preventable incidents in the past 2 years. The combination of all preventable accidents and incidents in the last 2 years may not exceed 3. Accident and incident history will be reviewed by the corporate safety and hiring teams. All at fault rear end accidents are a 1 year DQ. 
Max. Number of Jobs- in the last 3 years CDL Holder – No more than 4 Driving jobs in the last 12 months. No more than 1 termination in the last 5 years for safety, can’t be last employer Non CDL Holder – No more than 12 months unemployment in the last 3 years
Policy Against Unemployment- even if it is accounted for No more then 6 months in the last year OR 1 year in the last 3 years
Terminated Applicants Must not have been terminated from Last Driving Job for any reason Must not have been terminated from more than 1 employer in 5 years for poor safety record or theft No more than 2 Terminations from ANY employer in the past 5 years.
Criminal Requirements No Drug Related Convictions in past 5 years– All felonies and misdemeanors relating to sex, drugs, violence, or theft will be individually reviewed by Corporate Security.
DUI/DWI- What is the max number and what
time frames do they need to fall outside of?
No DUI/DWI within the past 10 years if the offense occurred while they held a CDL-A or Commercial Learners Permit. No DUI/DWI within the last 5 years if the offense occurred prior to getting a CDL-A or Commercial Learners Permit. No Multiple DUI/DWI’s. No DUI/DWI in a commercial vehicle.
Drug/Substance Test Hair & urine testing No use of illegal drugs, positive/refused tests in the past 10 years if the incident occurred while they held a CDL-A or Commercial Learners Permit. No drug related conviction within the last 5 years. No use of illegal drugs, positive/refused tests within the past 5 years if the incident occurred prior to getting a CDL-A or Commercial Learners Permit. No use of illegal drugs, positive/refused test in a commercial vehicle ever. Must be able to pass a urine and hair test. For prospective candidates who did not previously hold a CDL A or Commercial Learners Permit prior to applying at Swift Transportation (e.g. for someone who is newly licensed or permitted) you may not have used marijuana, even where legalized, in the prior 90 days.

Orientation will be no more than 2 days long. Lodging will be provided, single occupancy for experienced drivers. Meals and travel will be discussed during the hiring process. Pay will be $300, as long as you complete orientation and get hired.

ORIENTATION INFORMATION (SWIFTORT)

Our Drivers are paramount in fulfilling the mission of our company. This letter provides you with information to allow for your future success with Swift Transportation. Our goal is to guide you into your new position to become a successful Driver as you start your new career.

Listed below is important information to help ensure that your on-boarding experience is a smooth transition:

  • You will complete a urine and hair analysis test
  • You will complete a DOT physical, unless you’ve had one at a Swift approved clinic within the last 60 days
  • Bring your Medical Card
  • Bring your class A CDL (Paper copy & picture I.D. accepted)
  • Other medical documentation (if applicable)
    o Medical releases
    o Proof of prescription
    o CPAP- 90 day Compliance report
  • Bring Personal Identification (Refer to document below)
  • Bring your driving school diploma and student loan agreement (if applicable)

Please note: The hotel listed above is the approved hotel for this Driver Qualification location. All rooms are double occupancy rooms. Reservations were sent prior to your arrival. Applicants are expected to conduct themselves in a positive manner. We want you to be comfortable while off duty, please be respectful of your roommate and do not allow non-registered or uninvited registered/uninvited guests in the rooms. Please avoid drugs and alcohol while on your career path here at Swift Transportation. Dress Code: While in Driver Qualification dress is business casual. For safety reasons, close-toe shoes are required while on Swift property.

Attendance: Driver Qualification starts Tuesday by 7:00 am* and concludes Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
(*If you have completed your hair AND urine tests prior to Monday, please arrive by 8:00 am.) Please make sure you arrive to class on time so you are able to receive all the information needed for your success to become one of our premiere drivers in Swift’s Driving Force! Applicants will be paid for 2 days of orientation (8 hours per day) at minimum wage.

Meals: Breakfast will be provided by the hotel and lunch is provided by the Driver Qualification Team. Please plan on providing your
own dinner. You can take advantage of the many dining options near the hotel.
Our Mentor program is designed with the success of you in mind. Upon completion of Driver Qualification you will be matched with one of our knowledgeable mentors for up to six weeks of training.

MAKE SURE THE DRIVER IS CHECKING THEIR SPAM IN THEIR EMAIL!

STEP 2:
IN THE EVEN OF AN EMERGENCY OVER THE WEEKEND, PLEASE HAVE THE DRIVER CALL DANIEL AT 479-270-7894.
MAKE SURE THE DRIVER LEAVES A MESSAGE AND THEIR CONTACT INFO IF PROMPTED!
